Hand therapy

What is Hand Therapy?

Hand therapy is a specialized form of rehabilitation focused on the upper limb (shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist, and hand) after injury, surgery, or in the presence of conditions such as arthritis or nerve problems.

At Physiohope Clinic, hand therapy combines hands-on techniques, targeted exercises, braces and customized splinting when needed, and patient education to help you safely regain strength, movement, and confidence in using your hand.

Conditions We Treat

  • Fractures of the fingers, hand, wrist, or forearm.
  • Tendon injuries and repairs (flexor and extensor tendons).
  • Nerve injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, and cubital tunnel syndrome.
  • Sprains, dislocations, and ligament injuries of the wrist and fingers.
  • Trigger finger, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, and other tendonitis conditions.
  • Post-surgical stiffness, swelling, and weakness after hand or wrist surgery.
  • Arthritis of the hand, wrist, and thumb causing pain and reduced function.

How We Treat

Depending on your condition and goals, your personalized program may include:

  • Therapeutic exercises to improve motion, strength, and coordination of the hand and arm.
  • Manual therapy and gentle joint mobilization to reduce stiffness.
  • Custom or prefabricated splints/orthoses for protection, support, or correction when needed.
  • Scar and wound care, swelling management, and desensitization techniques after injury or surgery.
  • Pain-relief modalities.
  • Education on joint protection, ergonomic advice, and safe ways to use your hand at work and at home.
